Informe provisional del seguimiento de la mortalidad de vertebrados en las carreteras de Cantabria.

Collection of data on vertebrate mortality on roads of Cantabria (N Spain). Proportion of deaths among taxa: mammals (50%), birds (38%), reptiles (9%), and amphibians (3%). Most items were found on the highway, while a potentially dangerous road situated by the Santoña marshes reported fewer cases. This may due to the tall vegetation on both sides of road which forces birds to cross it safely.

La recogida de datos sobre la mortalidad de vertebrados en las carreteras de Cantabria (N España). Las proporciones de mortalidades entre los distintos taxones: mamíferos (50%), aves (38%), reptiles (9%), y anfibios (3%). La mayoría de los restos se encontraron en la autovía mientras que en una carretera potencialmente peligrosa situada al lado de las marismas de Santoña hubo menos casos. Eso puede ser debido a la vegetación alta que hay en ambos lados de la vía y que obliga a los pájaros a elevar el vuelo y así atravesar la carretera con seguridad.
