Informe provisional del seguimiento de la mortalidad de vertebrados en las carreteras de la provincia de Badajoz.

In Badajoz (W Spain) almost 50% of provincial roads were sought for vertebrate carcasses. The frequencies of vertebrate taxa were: birds (44%), mammals (32%) amphibians (14%) and reptiles (11%). Among birds, nocturnal raptors (biased towards juveniles in summer time) and Passer domesticus were the most affected. The better the condition of road, the more kills were detected clearly due to increase in both speed and traffic load.
